Centre-based long day care is generally open for at least eight to eleven hours a day, from Monday to Friday, 48 weeks per year. Long day care centres cater for children aged from six weeks to six years, although not all centres cater for the entire age range (i.e. age groups and numbers of children are specified on the centre license. Long day care centres are licensed by the Department of Community Services under the Children’s Services Regulation 2004. Where Long day care services are approved to receive Child Care Benefit (CCB), on behalf of families, they comply with accreditation requirements under the Child Care Quality Assurance system.
